This Guy Ran Two Sets of Books for Jet Skis
A Maryland motorsports owner (Robert Michael, 56,) had a pretty slick scam. Customers paid the right tax on jet skis, dirt bikes, and trailers. Then he allegedly made a second set of paperwork showing fake lower sale prices, sent that version to the state, and kept the difference. Investigators found at least 260 fake filings across the scheme.
He pleaded guilty and is set to serve 18 months in prison, plus pay more than $170,000 in restitution and fines. The wild part is how basic the scam was. Same sale. Two prices. One for the customer, one for the government. Eventually, somebody noticed.

The IRS Finally Made an App
The IRS just killed IRS2Go and replaced it with a new mobile app. You can check refunds, see balances, make payments, read some notices, pull transcripts, and even grab your IP PIN without digging through IRS.gov.
Honestly, this should have existed years ago. But if it works, that is a win. The IRS says more features are coming, so taxpayers may finally be able to do basic tax stuff from their phone without feeling like they are logging into a government website from 2009.

America’s $20 Lunch Problem
An “inexpensive” restaurant meal in the U.S. now averages about $20. That makes America the ninth most expensive country in the world to eat out. The same $20 gets you about three meals in Japan, nine in India, and 12 in Bangladesh.
The weird part is Japan. It is the cheapest G7 country to eat out, with a meal around $6.29. So one of the best food countries on earth is also one of the cheapest rich countries to grab dinner.
Meanwhile, in Switzerland, $20 does not even cover one cheap meal.
