💎 WTF of the Day

Republicans move to shut down audit watchdog

House Republicans just proposed a bill to get rid of the PCAOB, the group that makes sure auditors do their job right. Their plan is to give all that work to the SEC instead. Companies would also stop paying the special fees that fund the PCAOB.

Supporters say this would make things simpler. Critics say it would make audits weaker and could hurt investor trust. The PCAOB was created after the Enron mess twenty years ago. Now it could be gone if this bill passes.

Eide Bailly is on another shopping spree. The top 20 accounting firm just picked up Volpe Brown and Co, a local CPA firm based in Westerville, Ohio. The deal officially closes on June 24, 2025.

This move keeps Eide Bailly’s growth streak alive as it keeps adding firms to build out its Midwest footprint. Volpe Brown’s team will now roll under the Eide Bailly banner, giving them more muscle in the Ohio market.

 📊 Weekly Trend Chart

Plane tickets are somehow cheaper than 15 years ago

While everything else got more expensive, plane tickets quietly got cheaper. Thanks to fierce competition and an industry slowdown, airfares today are actually 4 percent lower than they were in 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Southwest’s CEO even said the airline industry is in a recession right now. Major airlines are cutting forecasts, slashing prices, and fighting over passengers. For once, the chaos in the skies is a win for travelers
