Judge Freezes Anti-Money Laundering Rules

A Texas judge just slammed the brakes on a major anti-money laundering law, the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA). This law was supposed to force businesses to reveal their real owners to fight shady activities like tax evasion and money laundering. But Judge Amos Mazzant says it’s an overreach and likely unconstitutional, so he’s blocking enforcement nationwide.

Businesses were scrambling to meet the January 1, 2025, compliance deadline, and now no one knows what to do. The feds are appealing, but for now, the CTA is in legal limbo—and so are a ton of businesses.
