The Thursday Lowdown ⬇️
If you're new around here, every day I share the 4-5 best accounting insights I saw in the past 24 hours.
I scroll. so you don't have to.
💎 WTF of the Day

Accounting Is Hot Again. Seriously.
Accounting majors just shot up 12 percent this spring. That is nearly 30,000 more students. It is the third semester in a row that enrollment has climbed.
Most students said they picked accounting after taking one class or meeting a CPA in person. The big dogs like AICPA, NASBA, and PwC are throwing money at scholarships, hosting career events, and making it easier to get licensed even if you do not want to do 150 credit hours.

Crete is Doing What Big 4 Never Had the Guts to Do
Crete just announced they’re spending $500 million to buy up accounting firms and stuff them with AI. They’ve already scooped up 20+ firms and hit $300 million in revenue…fast.
The plan? Replace admin work with OpenAI tools, scale fast, and let a small group run everything from the top. For now, employees stay. But you don’t drop half a billion just to leave things the same.

ChatGPT Just Blew Past Wikipedia
For the first time ever, ChatGPT got more US site visits than Wikipedia. In April alone, Americans hit up ChatGPT 780 million times, about 14 sessions per user, while Wikipedia lagged behind in total visits.
Even though Wikipedia still has more unique users, people are coming back to ChatGPT way more often. It is no longer just a toy. It is becoming the main info tool for millions.
