The Daily Lowdown - March 28 2025

The Friday Lowdown ⬇️

If you're new around here, every day I share the 4-5 best accounting insights I saw in the past 24 hours.

I scroll. so you don't have to.

💎 WTF of the Day

IRS Agents at the Border?

Here’s a weird one, some IRS agents have been pulled into immigration work. Yeah, instead of tracking down tax cheats, they’re helping with border enforcement.

Now, a group of House Democrats is saying “enough.” They’re pushing a bill to keep IRS agents focused on taxes, y’know, the job they were actually hired to do.

Why does this matter? Because with tax season in full swing and the IRS already stretched thin, using tax agents for anything but taxes is like borrowing your accountant to fix a plumbing leak.

💎 What’s poppin in accounting

Firms with AI report higher per employee revenue

Accounting firms using AI are pulling in way more dough, about 39% more revenue per employee. Yet, most firms still aren’t using it.

Those that do? They’re saving 79 minutes a day, which adds up to nearly 7 extra weeks of work per employee each year.

Tech’s not just cool, it’s making bank.

 📊 Weekly Trend Chart

USPS Is Basically FedEx Now

USPS has gone from your grandma’s letter service to a full-blown package machine. 📦

Packages now make up 40% of USPS revenue… even though they’re just 6% of what they deliver. That’s wild. Think about it, mail is what they move most, but packages are what actually pay the bills.

They’re still called the Postal Service, but the real money is in shipping boxes, not birthday cards.
