Westjet to pay accountant fired over covid shot refusal

An Alberta judge just ruled that WestJet has to pay 11 monthsโ€™ salary to an accountant they fired for refusing to get the COVID vaccine. The court said WestJet had no just cause to terminate her and called the firing excessive.

The accountant had worked at the airline for 15 years. Now WestJet is footing the bill for what the judge called a heavy-handed response.

Accounting becomes gateway to entrepreneurship

A new global ACCA survey found that over half of accounting pros in North America want to be entrepreneurs. Among Gen Z, that number jumps to 78 percent. Turns out accounting is becoming less of a career and more of a launchpad.

The same survey says two thirds want to work on environmental issues, and most want hybrid work. But the big takeaway? More accountants are treating the job like step one of something bigger.

Student loan delinquencies are about to spike hard

Student loan payments are back and already 5 million borrowers are in default. Delinquencies dropped near zero during the pandemic pause, but that pause is over. Now nearly 10 million people could fall behind in the next few months.

The Department of Education just laid off nearly half its staff, so good luck getting help. And with credit scores set to tank for many, the pain is about to spread beyond just student debt.
