If you’re new around here, every day I share the 4-5 best accounting insights I saw in the past 24 hours.
I scroll. so you don’t have to.
💎 WTF of the Day
Millions Missing in L.A.’s Homeless Crisis
Imagine running an agency with billions of dollars to fight homelessness and not bothering to track where the money goes. That’s exactly what’s happening at the L.A. Homeless Services Authority. An audit just exposed missing receipts, unapproved spending, and accounting so sloppy it might as well have been done on the back of a napkin.
This is the agency responsible for managing one of the biggest homelessness crises in the U.S., and they couldn’t even keep the books straight. It’s not just a screw-up—it’s a case study in what happens when no one’s paying attention.
💎 What’s poppin in accounting
Robbinsdale’s $20M Mistake
The Robbinsdale school district just uncovered a $20 million budget shortfall, all caused by an internal accounting error. Yep, $20 million—gone—because someone didn’t get the numbers right.
This isn’t just a minor inconvenience. That’s funding for teachers, programs, and day-to-day operations. Now, the district is scrambling to make cuts, reassess priorities, and figure out how such a massive mistake went unnoticed for so long.

Google Might Be Forced to Sell Chrome
I bet you’re using Chrome right now—and the DOJ isn’t happy about it. They’re cracking down on Google’s dominance in search and ads, arguing that owning both the Chrome browser and the search engine gives them an unfair advantage. Chrome automatically directs users to Google’s search engine, locking out competitors.
If a giant like Microsoft, Amazon, or Apple buys Chrome, won’t they just become the next monopoly? This raises bigger questions about whether breaking up Google solves the problem—or just shifts it to someone else.
