Wipfli associates participating in Community Day

In brief

  • Nearly 700 Wipfli associates supported 64 nonprofits during the firm's annual Community Day.

  • EY named leaders for its West, Atlantic and South markets, with corresponding office leadership changes.

  • Citrin Cooperman formed an intellectual property alliance, while SST added COO duties to its client accounting leader's role.

Wipfli puts numbers behind its service day

Wipfli associates contributed 2,298 volunteer hours to 64 nonprofit organizations during the firm's 22nd annual Community Day on September 24. Nearly 700 employees participated in activities that included packing meals, supporting food banks, building homes and assisting community programs.

The figures give firm leaders something more useful than a general statement about community involvement: a defined event, participation count and measure of service delivered. They do not, by themselves, establish an impact on recruiting, retention or business development.

EY reshapes regional leadership

EY appointed Andy Park to the newly created West Markets managing partner role, covering market strategy across 14 offices. Scott Porter succeeds him as Los Angeles managing partner.

Jane Steinmetz becomes Atlantic Markets managing partner, a new position responsible for a nine-office region. Brendan McCorry succeeds her as Boston office managing partner. McCorry joined EY's Boston office in 1995 and became Providence office managing partner in 2017.

In the South, Mike O'Leary takes the newly created South Markets managing partner position. Tom Jackson succeeds him as Charlotte office managing partner. The appointments separate broader regional responsibilities from leadership of individual offices.

Advisory capabilities expand

Citrin Cooperman announced a strategic alliance with law firm Michael Best & Friedrich to combine intellectual property strategy with management consulting. The target clients include middle-market companies and private equity funds in life sciences, technology and manufacturing.

The alliance combines Michael Best's IP practice and patent-data capabilities with Citrin's consulting work. For companies whose value depends on intellectual property, that creates a route to discuss legal assets alongside business strategy rather than treating the two as unrelated assignments.

Weaver added Eileen Sullivan and Sonia Lodhi as directors in its public sector consulting practice. Sullivan, based in San Francisco, brings more than 25 years of experience. Sacramento-based Lodhi brings more than 15 years.

Operating roles and specialist hires

At Dallas-based SST Accountants & Consultants, partner Emily M. Cook will add chief operating officer responsibilities while leading client accounting and advisory services. She joined SST in 2016 and became a partner in 2019.

Nardello & Co. hired John Slavek as a managing director in its New York financial investigations and forensic accounting practice. Meaden & Moore added Adam Briach as a Cleveland tax senior manager, bringing experience across high-net-worth, family office, partnership, trust and corporate tax work.

Taken together, the moves show firms investing in both specialist services and the management capacity needed to deliver them. New service lines still need accountable leaders, clear responsibilities and people with the relevant experience.
