WTF of the Day🤯

Accountants Got Slightly Less Miserable

Accounting jobs are not suddenly paradise. But they are getting a little better. A new CPA career survey found 54% of accountants are highly satisfied with their careers, up from 50% two years ago. Not a moon landing. More like finding out the office coffee is no longer terrible.

The interesting part is what actually makes accountants happy. Pay matters, but only when it feels really competitive. Long hours are not always the killer either. The work itself and the clients matter more. The happiest accountants were at small firms with 11 to 24 people, where 70% said they were satisfied and only 5% were dissatisfied. Sole practitioners had the roughest setup: 41% dissatisfied and only 23% satisfied. Basically, accounting burnout is not just about hours. It is about whether the job feels worth the hours.

What’s poppin in accounting🍿

Crypto Accounting Got Real

Crypto is not pretend money on the side anymore. Companies are holding Bitcoin, Ethereum, stablecoins, and other digital assets on real balance sheets. So FASB made a rule called ASC 350-60. Simple version: certain crypto now gets marked to market, meaning if the price moves up or down, the company has to show it in earnings. Before, companies had to book losses but could not book gains. Very normal. Very accounting.

But crypto is still messy. Bitcoin and Ethereum are usually easy. Stablecoins, wrapped tokens, NFTs, and DeFi can get weird because the accounting depends on what the token actually gives you. Gas fees, 24/7 pricing, wallet transfers, smart contracts, and collateral all need clear rules. The takeaway: crypto accounting is cleaner now, but it still needs judgment, documentation, and someone who can explain what the token actually does.

Weekly Trend Chart 📊

Tiny Towns, Big Mayor Checks

Mayors do not all get paid like public servants. Some get paid like startup execs. San Francisco has the highest mayor salary in America at $393,097, though Daniel Lurie only takes $1 because he is already loaded from the Levi Strauss family(as in Levi’s jeans). Los Angeles is next at $328,395. Oxnard is third at $323,282. So the top three are all in California.

Then it gets funny. New York City has 8.6 million people, but its mayor makes $258,750, good for seventh place. Rosemont, Illinois has 3,815 people and pays its mayor $260,000 because he also acts like the town CEO. The top seven make more than any U.S. governor. Basically, mayor pay is not about how many people you manage. It is about cost of living, job scope, city politics, and whether your tiny town somehow prints cash.
